Applications will be accepted at the Sheriff’s Office Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Fridays 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Applications must be neatly printed or typed and filled out completely. A Sheriff’s representative will witness and notarize your signature.
In addition to your application you are required to have:
- A valid Colorado driver’s license or military ID and/or proof of residency
- A photocopy of proof of firearms course signed by certified instructor
- A $100.00 processing fee made payable to Fremont County Sheriff’s Office
- A cashiers check or money order for $52.50 made payable to “Colorado Bureau of Investigations” or “CBI"
The application process will take approximately 20-30 minutes. We will photograph and take your fingerprints at that time.
Permit Renewals
You may apply as early as 120 days prior to the expiration of your original permit. It is recommended to apply at least 30 days in advance to your expiration date.
Renewal application requires the following:
- A Completed application which is the same as the original (Mark the box for renewals and write in your permit number). Please do not sign your application your signature will be witnessed and notarized by a sheriff’s representative.
- Proof of Firearms Training requirements do not pertain to renewals, because previous training was submitted with your prior application and has been “grandfathered” in. An affidavit of continued Firearms Qualification form will be provided at the time of the application process.
- A $50.00 processing fee made payable to Fremont County Sheriff’s Office.
- A cashiers check or money order for $13.00 made payable to Colorado Bureau of Investigations (CBI).
- A valid Colorado driver’s license and/or proof of residency
- A new photo will be taken at the time your application is processed.
The process will take approximately 10 to 15 minutes.
Any applicant who fails to file a renewal form on or before the permit expiration date may renew the permit by paying a late fee of $15.00 in addition to the above mentioned renewal fees. If you do not renew your permit within six months of expiration, the permit will be deemed permanently expired. A person whose permit has permanently expired may re-apply by submitting a new application with proof of training and the required fees.
