Republican, Edward H. Norden, a radio broadcaster of 32 years, was elected in November of 2004 as District 3 County Commissioner. Norden notes, "I've thought about it [running for office] for many years, seriously for the last six years. I've interviewed officials for years on the radio and became very interested and close to many of the issues." Norden aspires to work hard at getting to know people and their concerns and to improve communication within the County by using his writing and communication skills. "We have an opportunity in Fremont County to enhance our quality of life for families and retirees who already enjoy the great climate and recreational opportunities."
On the same note, the climate, scenery, people and recreational opportunities are Norden's favorite aspect of Fremont County, which he has been a resident of for nearly 23 years. In his spare time, Norden enjoys various outdoor activities such as golf, hunting and bicycling.
Ed Norden graduated from high school in 1968 from Kansas' Kensington High School. Four years later, Norden earned his Bachelor's Degree in Speech with an emphasis in Broadcasting from Fort Hays State University. Since then, Norden has had lots of experience in the radio arena. The first ten years of his career was spent broadcasting in Kimball, Nebraska. The next 22 years Norden worked for Cañon City 's KRLN and Star Country radio. He was General Manager at KRLN for 13 years.
Besides his tenure as General Manager, Norden has found the time to be involved in various groups and has been awarded for his efforts. Since 1991, the Advisory Board for the Fremont campus of Pueblo Community College has had the pleasure of his dedication and service. Norden is a member of the Cañon City Rotary Club and past board member of the Fremont Civic Theatre. In 1997, the Cañon City Chamber of Commerce recognized him with the Distinguished Citizen Award. His outstanding contributions were further recognized in 2001 when he received the Harry Hoth Public Service Award from the Colorado Association of Broadcasters.
Ed Norden has been married to his wife, Janice, for 33 years. Together they have two sons, Matt and Luke, both Cañon City High School graduates. The advice that has helped Ed the most in life is to be honest when dealing with people and to take the time to tell your children how proud you are of them.- Written by René Tate
