Debbie Bell became the first woman elected to the Fremont County Board of County Commissioners when she won the District 2 seat in November 2010. A Colorado native and long-time resident of Fremont County, she grew up in Penrose, graduated from Florence High School and has remained here since.
Commissioner Bell has a 30-year history of volunteerism with local groups including the Cañon City Noon Lions Club, Fremont County Valdai (Russia) Sister City Association, Family Crisis Services Inc., Heart of Colorado Court Appointed Special Advocates and more. As a former Cañon City Jaycee and Jaycee Woman, she helped organize the Music and Blossom Festival for years. She also has dedicated time to serve as a mentor for students at Southern Peaks Regional Treatment Center.
Debbie’s background includes a lifelong interest in journalism and the media, and she most recently was an award-winning staff reporter for the Cañon City Daily Record. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Systems from Colorado State University at Pueblo, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude.
Family is the most important thing in Debbie’s life. She is married to Charlie Bell and has three grown children, two adult stepchildren and two grandchildren. Her oldest daughter, Shannah, serves as banquet coordinator at the Golden Nugget in downtown Las Vegas, while her younger daughter, Jessica, is an au pair in Colorado Springs. Her son, Bobby, works with the Water Department of the City of Cañon City. Her stepson, Shawn, is a CNC Machinist at Atlas Pacific in Pueblo and has two children, Jewelianah and Shawn Jr. Her stepdaughter, Amber, is head instructor of the high school diploma program at Pueblo Community College in Pueblo.
In the brief spare time she has available, Debbie enjoys family time, reading, writing and traveling. She is eager to work with the citizens of Fremont County in all areas, especially striving for the return of economic prosperity.
