Fremont County collects 1.5% Use Tax for building material at the time the permit fee is paid. Use Tax is calculated on 50% of the total valuation of the project.

Example:

Total building valuation
$180,000.00
$180,000 divided by 50% =
$  90,000.00
$90,000 at 1.5% =
$    1,350.00 amount added to permit fee

When the Building Permit is issued, it will include an "Exemption Certificate." This document will have the permit number, an expiration date and will be stamped as paid for the specific address of the project. The certificate must be presented when your accounts for building material are set up prior to purchases being made. This gives each retailer notification that the county tax for this project has already been collected and is not to be charged again on your account. The Exemption Certificate can be used at any retail location in the state of Colorado. It is for building material only. It does not cover Colorado state sales tax and is not applicable on purchases of appliances, woodstoves, etc.
